Our first Budimas Breakfast Awareness Week

15 Mar 2018

In March this year, we ran our first breakfast awareness campaign to highlight the work of the Budimas Food Charity Fund (BFCF). We hit the Robinsons Mid Valley, HSBC Masjid Jamek, Wisma Goldhill Jalan Raja Chulan, Menara Nu, and Menara Hong Leong Bukit Damansara each day of the week to distribute nasi lemak. The meals were sponsored by the Big Onion Food Caterer and came in our iconic yellow breakfast boxes with little notes about BFCF.

Through BFCF, we serve children from poor families breakfast every school morning. From our humble beginnings of feeding merely 350 children in six schools in 2010, we now feed more than 6,200 children from 106 public schools across the states of Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor.

This year BFCF will be venturing into two more states: Perlis and Johor! This will ensure that the programme is well established in West Malaysia and we can reach out to an additional 700 students by end of the year before venturing into the east-coast next year.

We work very closely with school teachers where they will advise us on the list of children who will benefit from this programme the most. Eligible children include those from households whose income is below RM1,000 and has more than three children.

This programme has brought tremendous change to children from poor families. When they know they will have a solid meal promised for the day, they can truly look forward to attend school and pay attention in class.

However, there are still 157,000 children living in extreme poverty in Malaysia and so much more that needs to be done before we can reach every single one of them. We thank you for sticking with us on this tough but worthwhile journey.
